Notice on HST

The GST and PST are being combined as of July 1, 2010.  An HST tax of 13% will apply to all membership and storage fees for members of the Mississauga Sailing Club.  Currently we charge 5% GST on initiation, membership and storage fees.

Work hours are performed by volunteers so we do not charge GST and will not charge HST for Forgivable Maintenance Work Hours.  With the increase in tax from 5% to 13% everyone will see a larger total on the invoice you received in November 2010 for next years membership and storage.

The added tax does not benefit the club.  It is paid to the government.

Current Members:

Any current member that received an invoice in November 2009 will pay only the 5% GST if they pay the entire invoice before July 1, 2010.  We have 12 senior members and 3 crew members that have not paid as of February 2.  I would encourage you to pay your invoice in full quickly or I will need to add a prorated 8% tax to your invoice on July 1.

New Members:

Any new member that is invoiced and pays before July 1 will pay the 5% GST only.  Any invoice issued and paid after July 1, 2010 will have the 13% HST added to the initiation, membership and storage fees.

Benefit to MSC:

The PST we now pay for supplies and equipment can not be recovered from the government.  It is an expense to the club.  The HST we collect from members will be paid to the government.  The total HST we pay for supplies and services will be claimed as a reimbursement from the government.

About the Mississauga Sailing Club

Since 1972, the Mississauga Sailing Club has been continually transforming itself into the best self-help small-boat sailing club on this side of Lake Ontario.

Our focus on sailboats less than 21 feet in length allows us to provide affordable entry into sailing, while at the same time, enable some of the most exciting sailing around. There is something for the entire family here at MSC whether it be a relaxing cruise, or a race!

Located in Lakefront Promenade Park in Mississauga, our facilities are world-class with a new clubhouse bustling with activity year-round, a secure fenced dinghy park, and protected launching facilities which allow quick and easy access to a sheltered bay and the open water.

With the best quality winds on this side of the Lake, our active race program includes regular one-design and Portsmouth yardstick racing on Thursday nights and Sundays, and each year we host several major regattas.

Our members are genuine, friendly and helpful and all enjoy sharing sailing tips and stories at our numerous social events, BBQ’s, and races.

Whether you are interested in cruising or competition, MSC is an attractive and exciting place for both experienced and new small-boat sailors and their families.
